SclerotherapyWhat is Sclerotherapy? A procedure used to treat varicose and spider veins involving an injection of solution directly into the vein. The solution irritates the lining of the vessel causing it to stick together and clot the blood. The vessel will turn to scar tissue over time and fade away from view. Sclerotherapy is a well proven procedure used since the 1930's.
What are spider and varicose veins? Spider veins are small red, purple and blue vessels that twist and turn. They can be present on the face or legs.
How successful is the treatment? The estimate is 50-80% of injected veins may be eliminated with each injection session. Less that 10% of those treated will not respond.
What are the side effects? Larger veins may become lumpy and hard lasting fr several months; raised red areas may appear at injection sites but should disappear within a few days; bruising may occur and last for days or several weeks.
